BackgroundSpinalpainisaserioushealthandsocial-economicproblem.Endoscopicspinesurgeryasatreatmentoptionforspinalpainhasgainedtremendousattentionandgrowthinthepast2decades,andavarietyofendoscopictechniqueshavebeeninventedtotreatawiderangeofspinalconditions.PurposesThepurposesofthis2-partreviewarticleareto1)overviewthepublishedtechniquesofendoscopicspinesurgery,2)summarizetheapplicationsofthesetechniquesintreatingvariousspinalconditions,and3)evaluatetheclinicalevidenceofthesafetyandeffectivenessoftheseendoscopictechniquesintreatingsomeofthemostcommonspinalconditions.Thefirstpartofthereviewarticleprovidesanoverviewofcurrentlymostcommonlyusedtechniques.MethodsWesearchedthePubMeddatabaseforpublicationsconcerningendoscopicspinesurgeryandreviewedtherelevantarticlespublishedintheEnglishlanguage.ResultsDiscectomyandforaminotomyarethemostcommontypesofspinesurgerythatcancurrentlybedoneendoscopically.Endoscopictechniqueshavebeenusedtotreatawiderangeofspinaldisorderslocatedinthelumbar,cervical,aswellasthethoracicregionsofthespine.
