U.S.sanctionsonIranhaveexpandedsincethestartoftheIraniannuclearissue.Theyhavegrownfromsmall-scaleembargoestotoday’ssanctionsonmultiplesectorsincludingfinance,trade,energy,andpersonnel.DuringU.S.PresidentBarackObama’stenure,thereisverylittlelikelihoodthattheU.S.willresorttoforce,leavingWashingtonwithnoothermeansthansanctionstopersuadeIrantochangeitsnuclearpolicy.Thismeansthatalthoughsanctionshavealimitedeffect,theU.S.willcontinuetoprimarilyrelyonthemtoforceIran’shand.
