Can palliative radiotherapy influence prostate-specific antigen response in patients with castrate-resistant prostate cancer treated with systemic therapy (chemotherapy or abiraterone)?——a report of three cases

摘要 Palliativeradiotherapy(pRT)isprimarilyemployedforpalliationofbonepaininpatientswithcastrate-resistantprostatecancer(CRPC).However,evidencethatpRTinfluencesprostate-specificantigenresponseinpatientswithCRPConsystemictherapyislacking.WedescribethreecasesofCRPCprogressingaftertreatmentwithdocetaxel(n=2)andabiraterone(n=1),whorespondedunusuallyafterpRTforbonepainwiththedevelopmentofasignificantbiochemicalresponseandrestorationofresponsetosystemictherapy.ThepossibilityofpRTinfluencingmetastaticdiseaseinCRPChasnotbeenpreviouslyreported,andraisesthepossibilityofradiation-inducedmodulationofanti-tumorimmuneresponsemechanismsthatmayplayaroleintherestorationofresponsetosystemictreatment.
