摘要
Theadipocytokine,apelin-13,isanabundantlyexpressedpeptideinthenervoussystem.Apelin-13protectsthebrainagainstischemia/reperfusioninjuryandattenuatestraumaticbraininjurybysuppressingautophagy.However,secondaryapelin-13effectsontraumaticbraininjury-inducedneuralcelldeathandblood-brainbarrierintegrityarestillnotclear.Here,wefoundthatapelin-13significantlydecreasescerebralwatercontent,mitigatesblood-brainbarrierdestruction,reducesaquaporin-4expression,diminishescaspase-3andBaxexpressioninthecerebralcortexandhippocampus,andreducesapoptosis.Theseresultsshowthatapelin-13attenuatessecondaryinjuryaftertraumaticbraininjuryandexertsaneuroprotectiveeffect.
