ObjectiveToinvestigatethesuitabilityofminiaturepigsasananimalmodelforotologicalresearch.MethodsMicrodissectionofthetemporalbonewasperformedon10miniaturepigsandrecordedonphoto-graphs.ResultsThemorphologyandmeasurementoftheexternal,middleandinnerearandthelateralre-cessoftheminiaturepigswereobtainedbymicrodissection.ConclusionComparedtotraditionalanimalmodels,theminiaturepigmaybeabettermodelforbiomedicalresearchbecauseofitsmanysimilaritiesinphysiologicalfunctionswithhumans.Similaritiesofthetemporalbonestructures,includingtheexternal,middleandinnerearandthelateralrecess,betweentheminiaturepigandhumanmaketheanimalapoten-tiallyusefulmodelforotologicalresearch.
