  • 简介:Effectsofdepositionlayerpositionandnumber/densityonlocalbendingofathinfilmaresystematicallyinvestigated.Becausethedepositionlayerinteractswiththethinfilmattheinterfaceandthereisanoffsetbetweenthethinfilmneutralsurfaceandtheinterface,thedepositionlayergeneratesnotonlyaxialstressbutalsobendingmoment.Thebendingmomentinducesaninstantout-of-planedeflectionofthethinfilm,whichmayormaynotcausethesocalledlocalbending.Thedepositionlayerismodeledasalocalstressor,whoselocationanddensityaredemonstratedtobevitaltotheoccurrenceoflocalbending.Thethinfilmrestsonaviscouslayer,whichisgovernedbytheNavier-Stokesequationandbehaveslikeanelasticfoundationtoexerttransverseforcesonthethinfilm.Theunknownfeatureoftheaxialconstraintforcemakesthegoverningequationhighlynonlinearevenforthesmalldeflectioncase.Theconstraintforceandfilmtransversedeflectionaresolvediterativelythroughthegoverningequationandthedisplacementconstraintequationofimmovableedges.Thisresearchshowsthatinsomespecialcases,thedepositiondensityincreasedoesnotnecessarilyreducethelocalbending.Bycomparingthethinfilmdeflectionsofdifferentdepositionnumbersandpositions,wealsopresenttheguidelineofstrengtheningorsuppressingthelocalbending.

  • 简介:Thebendingrigidityofsubmergedvegetationiscloselyrelatedwithvegetativedragforce.Thisworkaimsatdeterminingtheeffectsofflowconditionsandcharacteristicsofvegetationonthebendingrigidityofsubmergedvegetation.Basedonthedimensionalanalysismethod,thefactorsinfluencingthebendingrigidityofindividualsubmergedvegetationwereanalyzed.Therelationshipbetweentherelativebendingrigidityanditsinfluencingfactorswasinvestigatedbyexperimentalobservation,andarelativebendingrigidityexpressionforsubmergedvegetationwasobtainedbymeansofmultiplelinearregressionmethod.Theresultsshowthatthesubmergedvegetationhasthreestatesunderdifferentinflowconditions,andtheeachcriticalrelativebendingrigidityofindividualsubmergedvegetationwasdeterminedforthedifferentstatesofsubmergedvegetation.

  • 简介:Determiningtheinterfacialpropertiesofthermalbarriercoatings(TBCs)isimperativefortheirdurabilityevaluationandfurtherimprovements.Aceramiccoating(topcoat)andaNiCoCrALYbondcoatwereatmospheric-plasma-sprayed(APS)onastainlesssteelsubstrate.Amodifiedthree-pointbendingtestwasadoptedtoinitiateandpropagatethetopcoat/bondcoat(TC/BC)interfacialcrack.Afteracompletedelamination,thefracturesurfaceswereexaminedbyanopticalmicroscope,whichshowsthatthecrackingplanewasmerelyontheTC/BCinterface.Basedontheexperimentalresultsofload–displacementandcracklength–displacement,thestrainenergyreleaserateGforcrackpropagationwascalculated,andtheaveragedmagnitudewas77.1J/m2.Repeatableresultshaveindicatedthatthemethodcanbeusedfortheevaluationofinterfacialfracturetoughnessinthermalbarriercoatingsandothermulti-layerstructures.

  • 简介:Thewave-inducedverticalshipmotionsandbendingmomentsofadoublehull-oiltankerinrealisticfloodingconditionsarestudied.Thescenariosinvestigatedarerepresentedbywateringressintothestarboardballasttanksforcollisiondamagecasesandbothstarboardandportsideballasttanksforgroundingsituations.Seakeepingcomputationsareperformedforeightdamagescenariosandfortheintactcondition,eachcorrespondingtodifferentchangesindisplacement,trim,andheel.Foreachofthedamageconditions,transferfunctionsofverticalmotionsandloadsarecalculatedusingapotentiallinear3Dpanelhydrodynamiccodeinthefrequencydomainthatincludeseffectofthemotionofthewaterinfloodedtanks.AMATLABcodeisdevelopedtofacilitateautomatedhydrodynamicsimulationofmanydamagescenarios.Verificationofseakeepingresultsisperformedbycomparingtransferfunctionswithresultsofthepreviousstudy.Wave-inducedverticalresponsesofdamagedshiparethencomparedtothoseofintactshipusingtwospectral-basedmethodsoriginatingfromuncertaintyanalysisofwaveloads,whichareconvenienttoolstoassessconsequencesofdamageonshort-termshipresponses.Generally,observedtrendisthatverticalwave-inducedresponsesofdamagedshipconvergetowardthoseofintactshipwithincreasingwaveperiod.Fairlysmalldifferencesbetweenresponsesofasymmetricallydamagedshipwithrespecttothesymmetricalincomingwavedirectionsarefound.Theresultsofthestudyareanefficientmethodforseakeepingassessmentofdamagedoiltankersandtheframeworkforevaluatingconsequencesofdamagescenarios,headingangles,andseaconditionsonseakeepingresponsesofdamagedships.Theresultscanbeusedtodecideiftheintactshipmodelcanbeusedinsteadofthedamagedonefortheemergencyresponseprocedureorfortheriskassessmentstudieswhenmodelingandcomputationaltimerepresentimportantlimitations.
