简介:Atheoreticalmodelingapproachaswellasanunsteadyanalyticalmethodisusedtostudyaerodynamiccharacteristicsofwingflappingwithasymmetricstroke-cyclesinconnectionwithanobliquestrokeplaneduringinsectforwardflight.Itisrevealedthattheaerodynamicasymmetrybetweenthedownstrokeandtheupstrokeduetostroke-asymmetricalflappingisakeytounderstandtheflowphysicsofgenerationandmodulationoftheliftandthethrust.Predictedresultsforexamplesofgivenkinematicsvalidatemorespecificallysomeviewpointsthatthewingliftismoreeasilyproducedwhentheforwardspeedishigherandthethrustisharder,andtheliftandthethrustaregeneratedmainlyduringdownstrokeandupstroke,respectively.Theeffectsofthreecontrollingparameters,i.e.theanglesoftiltedstrokeplane,thedifferentdownstrokedurationratios,andthedifferentanglesofattackinbothdown-andup-stroke,arefurtherdiscussed.Itisfoundthatlargerobliqueanglesofstrokeplanesgeneratelargerthrustbutsmallerlift;largerdownstrokedurationratiosleadtolargerthrust,whilemakinglittlechangeinliftandinputaerodynamicpower;andagain,asmallincreaseoftheangleofattackindownstrokeorupstrokemaycauseremarkablechangesinaerodynamicperformanceintherelevantstroke.
