  • 简介:Collaborativeenvironmentssupportingpointtopointandmultipointvideoconferencing,documentandapplicationsharingacrossbothlocalandwideareanetworks,videoondemand(Broadcastandplayback)andinteractivetextfacilitieswillbeacrucialelementforthedevelopmentofthenextgenerationofHEPexperimentsbygeographicallydispersedcollaborations.The"VirtualRoomVideoconferencingSystem"(VRVS)hasbeendevelopedsince1995,inordertoprovidealowcost,bandwidth-efficient,extensiblemeansforvideoconferencingandremotecollaborationovernetworkswithinthehighEnergyandNuclearPhysicscommunities.TheVRVS(VirtualRoomsVideoconferencingSystem)providesworldwidevideoconferencingserviceandcollaborativeenvironmenttotheresearchandeducationcommunities,VRVSusestheInternet2andESnethigh-performancenetworksinfrastructuretodeployitsWeb-basedsystem,whichnowincludesmorethan5790registeredhostsrunningVRVSsoftwareinmorethan50differentcountries,VRVShostsanaverageof100-multipointvideconferenceandcollaborativesessionsworldwideeverymonth.Therearearound35reflectorsthatmanagethetrafficflow.atHENPlabsanduniversitiesintheUSandEurope,Sofar,thereare7VirtualRoomsforWorldWideConferences(involvingmorethanonecontient),and4VirtualRoomseachforintra-continentalconferencesintheUS,EuropeandAsia,VRVScontinuestoexpandandimplementnewdigitalvideotechnologies,includingH.323ITUstandardintegration,MPEG-2videoconferencingintegration,sharedenvironments,andQualityofService.
