THREE-DIMENSIONAL EVOLUTIION OF VORTICES AND EARLY FEATURES OF COHERENT STRUCTURE IN THE TURBULENT WAKE BEHIND A 2-D CIRCULAR CYLINDER

3-DevolutionofKarmanvortexfilamentsandvortexfilamentsinbraidregionsintheturbulentwakeofa2-Dcirculaxcylinderisinvestigatednumeri-callybasedoninviscidvortexdynamicsbyanalyzingtheresponseoftheinitially2-Dspanwisevortexfilamentstoperiodicspanwisedisturbanceofvaryingmagnitude,wavelengthandinitialphaseangles.Ourresultsrevealakindof3-Dvortexsysteminthewakewhichconsistsoflargescalehorseshoe-shapedvorticesandsmallscaleλ-shapedvortexfilamentsaswellasvortexloops.Themechanismandthedynamicprocessaboutthegenerationofstreamwisevorticalstructureandthe3-Dcoherentstructurearereported.
