Resistance welding of carbon fibre reinforced polyetheretherketone composites using metal mesh and PEI film

Weldabilityofpolyetheretherketone(PEEK)withpolyetherimide(PEI)istested.AndcarbonfiberreinforcedPEEKlaminatesareresistanceweldedusingstainlesssteelmeshheatingelement.Theeffectsoftheweldingtimeandweldingpressureonthelapshearstrengthofjointsareinvestigated.ResultsshowthatPEEKcanhealwithPEIwellinweldingconditionandthelapshearstrengthofPEEK/CF(carbonfibre)jointincreaseslinearlywithweldingtime,butreachesamaximumvaluewhenweldingpressurerangingfrom0.3MPato0.5MPawithconstantweldingtime.ThefracturecharacteristicsofsurfaceareanalyzedbySEMtechniques,andfourtypesoffracturemodesoflapshearjointsaresuggested.
