Size-basedpartitioningofphytoplanktonisausefultoolformonitoringkeyphytoplanktontraits,anditprovidesabetterunderstandingofphytoplanktondynamics.Ouraimistodeterminethevariationinthedifferentsizeclassesofphytoplanktontothetotalphytoplanktonbiomassduringthespringandautumnof2010andexaminetherelationshipbetweenphytoplanktonsizestructureandenvironmentalvariablesandzooplanktoncommunitystructureneartheChangjiangEstuary.Inthespring,phytoplanktonpopulationswerepredominantlyconsistedofnanophytoplanktonthroughoutthestudyregion.Intheautumn,picophytoplanktonandnanophytoplanktoncollectivelydominatedthephytoplanktoncommunity.APearsoncorrelationanalysishighlightedtheroleoftemperatureandtrophicconditionsonthecontributionsofnanophytoplanktonandpicophytoplankton.Thegrazingpressureexertedbymesozooplanktoncouldhaveplayedanimportantroleindeterminingthemicrophytoplanktoncommunitystructure.
