TheauthorsanalyzeeventsintheAsia-PacificregionsincetheendoftheColdWarandthendrawthreeconclusionsaboutthestrategicbalanceof'onesuperpower,multiplemajorpowers'inthisregion.First,comparedwithastablesuperpower,theU.S.,currentmultiplepowers—China,Japan,Russia,ASEAN,IndiaandAustralia—aremoredynamic.Second,twokindsofforcesmaintainorder—acombinationofnationalstrengthandnon-nationalstrength.Ononehand,therearefourdifferentmodelswhichcouldensureAsia-Pacificorderinthefuture:theU.S.modelofhegemony,China'smodelofaharmoniousAsia-Pacificregion,ASEAN'smodelofregionalcooperation,andthemodelofnon-statesactors.Ontheotherhand,fourdifferentstructures—security,production,financeandknowledge—arecloselylinkedinthisarea.Third,globalizationofthemarketeconomybringsdynamicandpersedevelopment.TheauthorsbelievethatChina's'HarmoniousAsia-Pacific'modelisthebestchoicefortheAsia-Pacificstrategicpatternof'Onesuperpower,multiplemajorpowers.'
