AnumericalwaveflumeisconstructedbasedontheReynoldsAveragedNavier-Stokes(RANS)equationswithturbulenceclosurebyamodifiedk-εmodeltostudytheviscousinteractionsofwaveswithverticalbreakwatersfordifferentovertoppingcases.Thegoverningequations,theturbulencemodel,boundaryconditions,andsolutionmethodforthenumericalwaveflumeareintroducedbriefly.Thereliabilityofthenumericalwaveflumeisexaminedbycomparingthenumericalresultswiththeexperimentalmeasurements,andgoodagreementsbetweenthemindicatethevalidityofthepresentmodel.Thedevelopmentsofmeanvelocityfields,thecontoursofvorticity,andtheinfluencesofwavenonlinearityonturbulencefieldaswavepassingthroughverticalbreakwatersarediscussedindetailbasedonthenumericalresults.Itisnotedthatthevorticesattherearofthelowersubmergedbreakwaterareclosetothebottomandmaybeinducethescouringtotheleesidetoeofmarinestructureinpractice.Overall,aconclusioncanbeobtainedfromthisstudythattheturbulenceinwavefieldaroundstructureisinduceddirectlybythedevelopmentofboundarylayeronthesolidboundary,thenonlinearinteractionoffreesurfacewithobstacle,andtheplungingofovertoppingwaves.
