  • 简介:AbstractBackground:Applying ultrasonic imaging system during surgery requires the poring of saline, performing the measurement, and acquiring data from its display—which requires time and is highly "performer dependent," i.e., the measure is of a subjective nature. A new ultrasonic device was recently developed that overcomes most of these drawbacks and was successfully applied during tumor-in-brain neurosurgeries. The purpose of this study was to compare the two types of US devices and demonstrate their properties.Methods:The study was performed in the following stages: (i) an ex vivo experiment, where slices of the muscle and brain of a young porcine were laid one on top the other. Thicknesses and border depths were measured and compared, using the two types of US instruments. (ii) During human clinical neurosurgeries, tumor depth was compared by measuring it with both devices. (iii) Following the success of stages (i) and (ii), using solely the new US device, the tumor thickness was monitored while its resection. Correlation, Pearson’s coefficient, average, mean, and standard deviation were applied for statistical tests.Results:A high correlation was obtained for the distances of tissue borders and for their respective thicknesses. Applying these ultrasonic devices during neurosurgeries, tumor depths were monitored with high similarity (87%), which was also obtained by Pearson’s correlation coefficient (0.44). The new US device, thanks to its small footprint, its remote measurement, and the capability of monitoring intraoperatively and in real-time, provides the approach to tumor’s border before its complete resection.Conclusions:The new US device provides better accuracy than an ultrasonic imaging system; its data is objective; it enables to control the residual tumor thickness during its resection, and it is especially useful in restricted areas. These features were found of great help during a tumor-in-brain surgery and especially in the final stages of tumor’s resection.

  • 简介:摘要目的对422例ASC-US的临床分析。方法将TCT检查结果为ASC-US的患者随机分为两组A组将ASC-US患者直接进行阴道镜活检,B组将ASC-US患者进行高危型HPV检测,阳性者进行活检,比较两组宫颈CIN的检出情况。结果高危型HPV阳性患者中检出宫颈CIN比例高于直接活检组。结论对ASC-US患者先进行高危型HPV检测,阳性者进行活检,阴性者定期复查TCT。

  • 简介:摘要目的比较MRI和US在子宫腺肌病中诊断价值,探讨两种方法对子宫腺肌病(AD)应用价值。方法对我院妇科门诊收集的82例疑似AD患者均行MRI和US检查。观察US和MRI表现,术后行病理学检查作为对比。结果82例疑似AD患者病理组织学检查,确诊子宫腺肌病38例,子宫肌瘤42例,子宫血管瘤2例。MRI与病理对照后,确诊子宫腺肌病35例,误诊1例,漏诊2例,诊断符合率92.1%,误诊率2.6%,漏诊率5.3%;US与病理对照后,确诊子宫腺肌病31例,误诊4例,漏诊7例,诊断符合率81.6%,误诊率10.5%,漏诊率18.4%,二者对比差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论MRI诊断子宫腺肌病敏感性、特异性、准确性明显优于US,且对子宫结构显示更为清晰,还可进行定性、定位诊断,临床实用价值更突出。

  • 简介:AbstractAs the entire world is under the grip of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and as many are eagerly trying to explain the origins of the virus and cause of the pandemic, it is imperative to place more attention on related potential biosafety risks. Biology and biotechnology have changed dramatically during the last ten years or so. Their reliance on digitization, automation, and their cyber-overlaps have created new vulnerabilities for unintended consequences and potentials for intended exploitation that are mostly under-appreciated. This study summarizes and elaborates on these new cyberbiosecurity challenges, (1) in terms of comprehending the evolving threat landscape and determining new risk potentials, (2) in developing adequate safeguarding measures, their validation and implementation, and (3) specific critical risks and consequences, many of them unique to the life-sciences. Drawing other's expertise and my previous work, this article reviews and critically interprets our current bio-economy situation. The goal is not to attribute causative aspects of past biosafety or biosecurity events, but to highlight the fact that the bioeconomy harbors unique features that have to be more critically assessed for their potential to unintentionally cause harm to human health or environment, or to be re-tasked with an intention to cause harm. It is concluded with recommendations that will need to be considered to help ensure converging and emerging biorisk challenges, in order to minimize vulnerabilities to the life-science enterprise, public health, and national security.
