Amodifiedsnap-throughmechanismisusedinanelectromagneticenergyharvestertoimproveitseffectiveness.Itmainlycomprisesthreespringsthatarecon-figuredsothatthepotentialenergyofthesystemhastwostableequilibriumpoints.Inparticular,thesmallvibrationbehavioroftheharvesteraroundoneoftheequilibriumsisofinterest.Amulti-scalemethod(MSM)isusedtoanalyzethefrequencyresponsecurve.Twosnap-throughmechanismsareconsidered.Onehasbothhorizontalandverti-calsprings.Theotherhasonlyhorizontalsprings.Thefrequencyresponsecurvesofthesetwoclassesarecomparedunderthesameexcitationandelectricloadingconditions.Thelatterexhibitsmorebendingofthefrequencyresponsecurvethantheformerone.Theresultsarealsovalidatedbysomenumericalwork.TheaveragedpowersubjecttotheGaussianwhitenoiseiscalculatednumerically,andtheresultsdemonstratethatbi-stableenergyharvestingwithonlyhorizontalspringscanoutperformthemechanismwithbothhorizontalandverticalspringsforthesamedistancebetweentwoequilibriums.
